Youtube ads #2751
Comments
hi and thanks! in fact we had 1000s of extra uninstalls in the last few days. @VE9SY are you sure disabling our extension helped? can you try again with each feature, one by one (there is "my active features" in the top right) thanks! |
Merry Christmas! @code-charity/contributors |
I can watch videos and ads with |
Because uBlock filters – Quick fixes is already updated/fixed. |
Works perfectly for me with Firefox and Vivaldi. |
Browser: Chromium (basically Google Chrome) recent version.
uBlock filters:
|
I disabled Ublock origins, and the flaw disappeared. Of course we got
commercials. After a while I reactivated it and now it seems to work fine.
If any other problems come up eill try to go as you say and send you the
information.

Which browser and version if it is not the most current.
Do you have any other blockers active?
Just like uBlock or Ghostery?

A couple months ago when YouTube escalated their adblock war, my Ghostery and Adblock extensions made YouTube entirely unusable. So I had to disable them, adding them to the "allow exceptions = youtube.com etc." Google owns both of these two biggest search engines and with their business partners, most of the rest of the internet. Their business model is ad and ecommerce driven, so anyone blocking ads on YouTube is seriously outmatched in this war, which is a guaranteed losing battle in the long run. You can win small victories but they will win out in the end. The more you change how you do things the more their extremely well funded, well equipped, university educated departments can adapt and readjust. So fighting ads becomes a waste of time from the start. How could someone ask a company to do business with them (having an extension that modifies their website) while also pulling their only income from under their feet at the same time? It doesn't make sense. Of course YouTube isn't going to cooperate with ad blockers. So my strategy has been to pay the YouTube Premium fee. I pay annually (cheaper, and less annoying bank charges) and use the adblockers for everything else. And can use YouTube Music instead of paying for Spotify etc. A monthly fee isn't on the table for some people but damn is it so much better than seeing ads. I haven't seen a YouTube ad in like four years. No matter how much external ads are removed from YouTube, increasingly the creators are injecting affiliate ads within the videos themselves. So again it's all a waste of time fighting ads when the creators can circumvent ad blocking themselves. Using extensions like SponsorBlock is pretty dank, but is becoming necessary, unfortunately. As we are seeing so many YouTubers don't give a damn about the content they are creating anyways, they are just in it for the money. And we are all just wallets to them. |
You can try clearing the cache and, above all, it is important to restart the browser. I see it completely differently. Why not fight it? And it's certainly inaccurate to say that they will ultimately win. |
Proud of you guys! We could make topics with many comments appear bold/bigger in the extension The uninstalls might be trial & error /confusion, since when asking back nobody kept thinking it was this |
besides 'it's not rocket science', but volunteer developers might just work during holidays and get tired of repetitive/circular work sooner or later (#1881) ( and in case of extensions of course capabilities depend on the few commercial browser standards makers..) Updating our features & working without APIs can be similarly annoying, besides we have enough users and team-efficiency is realistic. If we could take only $0.01/week per feature, only from power-users and only in rich countries, that would still make enough income to hire 50 times faster development or so :) The case against ads: So the publishers commit to own (part-time-)slaves; Some ads can be helpful to both sides.
(yes, only expensive, when you don't plan to use it many hours per year (like most people) (let alone considering that the majority of people still live/survive on $0-10/day) |
Yes it did, I then played a video and to test it again I re-enabled the extension, and problem went away. I don't have Ublock origin as suggested it one post. Just this. No Idea what happened. I guess you tube blew a fuse. I have the extention working and now you tube is fine. I use Youtube premium, so I don't get ads anyway??? Who knows what they did. |
thank you! @VE9SY sorry @ Clean Circuit (hope the thumbs down didnt upset you :( ) Merry Christmas! |
Brave Browser |
Not at all. Was not your fault, wasn't mine. Didn't work one day, shut down for the night and boom is working fine now. Great little ad on! Was just something in Windows, Firefox, or on you tube got changed. But everything worked out in the end. If people did not like that I reported a possible bug, oh well. All worked out now without you doing any thing, or without me having to do anything. YouTube just likes to throw fits now and then. This time it was my turn. |
Since Dec 20th, You tube detects this extension and sees the ad blocker and will not let me see videos. Had to disable it to get on YouTube.
