Reading file contents into a variable

See help fileread(). If you needed to store file contents (e.g., to hash the version or something like that) you would create a strL variable qui: g strL files = "" and could then populate individual records like qui: replace files = fileread("filepath'/thefile'"') in 1`.

Thanks @wbuchanan. I haven't used Stata for quite some time now so haven't followed this. In fact, I don't have access to a Stata installation anymore. Not sure if this is a bug or an enhancement suggestion. I suspect the latter.
