Nice initiative but I hope you never force it on us.

I always want to be able to see the stared content of the people I follow in chronological order by default. I can see myself venture to an alternative feed if I feel adventurous but this is the exception rather than the norm.

I am very appreciative of the work you do at Github. And I'm hopeful that I do not come off as too pessimistic. This feedback is only because I have seen many great products get silently ruined by greedy timeline algorithms.

This is fantastic. I had a new follower today and had no fucking way to see it anywhere, no notification nothing, after getting this installed, my old feed was back and I could see the follower, as we have all been used to. This new feed still sucks and it seems like no changes have been made to give us the original view.

I don't like that services always tend to look like social medias (due to suggested stuff, reactions and any other social media-related feature) unless they allow users to hide certain features that they don't want to see for personal reason or interest. Users should be given the ability to hide recommended repositories completely and organize their home page as they like, not being forced by the service to see stuff they don't really want to see, need or are interested at all. To me, seeing such content is completely useless for my limited use of GitHub and is also distracting because it fills the view with stuff that I don't need precisely. Moreover, when I hide recommended repositories they don't disappear either, the suggestion stays there until I refresh the page so the suggestion removal feature is broken/set to not work intentionally. It doesn't even display any error log or warning on the browser console.

Regarding Profile cards from "Recommended based on people you follow".
Username followed by name (if provided) looks bad. Name isn't related. username should be enough.

Circle-based profile pictures are pretty old-school. Also, profile pictures are too large.

The contents inside a card release can be quite messy.

• Heading elements can be transformed to p, keep heading for release title only.
• Paragraphs should have a smaller margin-bottom size
• author + pic displayed outside should be enough. Instead of showing again the author / repository you can just name the repo.
• "Read more" link is very... Wordpress-like. Devs know how to click

Personally, as a GitHub Organizations user, I would much prefer this whole are be replaced by dashboards and links that make me more productive. For example, I use GitHub Projects constantly, but it takes so many clicks to get there. Perhaps let me Organize/flag repos from my Organization/Team to include links and analysis for. Really, I don't want to see anything from my personal account by default if I also have an Organization account.

Yep. I go to GitHub primarily to interact with repositories. Primarily through reading and responding to Issues, and/or through contributing code and/or documentation. And it is primarily through those repositories interactions that I interact with other people who are interacting with repositories.

I really couldn't care less who starred what! When I see someone who has starred a repository, and I see that same person has starred hundreds of repositories (not uncommon), then clearly they are not so discriminating and their star means nothing! As someone mentioned in another post here, if I really want to see what someone else is doing then I can "follow" or "subscribe". Please, please don't force an involuntary feed on me!! If you really want to make GitHub useful, then give me the ability to choose which user actions I can subscribe to on a per-user (following) basis. For example, maybe I do want to know if a particular user stars a repository. On the other hand, maybe I only want to know if that user opens a PR, etc.

Ideally, I would like to see my recent repositories in the large center portion of the page. If anything, feeds should be off to the side, or on another tab, if present at all.

And the recent repositories should be sorted with those that I interact with most frequently at the top of the list. As it is, the "Recent Repositories" on the left side is clearly not the most recent repositories at least in terms of my interaction with them. The repositories that I interact with most frequently and most recently are burried deep in the list. What a pain!

Clearly, very clearly the interface is not designed with productivity in mind. If you can't do that, then please, please, please at least make it configurable as to what appears on the page (and where) so that users themselves can at least design it with their own productivity in mind.

Somehow I get the feeling that this is all going in one ear and out the other and that Microsoft is going to do whatever they want with GitHub anyway and just fill it with click bait and turn it into just another social media platform. Uggh!

The 'For You' is not for me. I like the new categorized 'Stars', of which I have a bunch of 'Investigate - [topic]' star categories since starring doesn't mean I want to 'follow' and see what starring or PR a user is doing — that is what 'follow' is for, starring for me is like bookmarks (and like bookmarks are a vague indication of interest, not meaning the starred repo is something I would go the trenches for).

And as you point out, the existing feed mechanism could already do this. If anything adding filtering and sorting (more control) to the existing option would be better than taking away control.

As someone else said, if this doesn't stay out of my way, I'll be switching to a different centralize public repo, or going with one of the self-hosted options. I mostly want to get stuff done, and only want to spend a little time on finding out about other things I might be interested in using or participating in.

Yes I agree. And also it requires so many clicks to get to the commits section on Github.com. Would be useful if all the commits are shown on the repository main page.

I wouldn't mind seeing the starts of discussions in repo's I follow on a feed, what's disappointing me with the current implementation is I seem to get more 'for you' content than things I follow. Github isn't selling advertising, I see no reason for it to try and keep me on the feed longer than I need to be.

• Algorithmic feeds are a social platform plague that needs to be stopped
• Starring things doesn't mean I want to see their updates -- that's what Watching/Following is for; please don't mix them up
• Unable to mute update types and recommendations doesn't make the feed useful

I think this whole feature would be better called "Discover" or "Explore" and be placed in a tab that I can check at my discretion instead of it being part of my daily workflow.

So right now you don't see what the accounts you follow star and who they follow at all, right? I see you're following some organizations. You might be experiencing the same bug that I am.

Everything is slow and buggy.

just show me the repos, fast.

also the new code editor takes forever to load, just to lie to me. for example, open file X. it has some random term. I click it. after a while the right region shows that the term is only ever used on that file. I believe it like a fool, open a issue... and ofcourse, if i had downloaded the code and grep term * i would see it is used in dozen other places.

So much slow code for less then no benefit.

what about just giving me the option to the simple editor?

this completely kills the "it's just a quick change. I will use the online editor" use case with some dreamed up use case of using github as a full blown IDE. Nobody wants that :) it's just that you removed all other options.

installing the dependencies locally and checking out the code is now faster then clicking "edit" on the site.

There's this annoying banner that says my billing method failed and there's no way to get rid (dismiss) of it. And also why is there no way to remove a payment method. Please at least allow users the flexibility to simply remove there payment method altogether. It's really an eyesore and I've been using GitHub Mobile more often just to avoid seeing it.

I've turned on almost every option, but I haven't seen much of my feed for weeks. There seems to be an issue serving the new feed. When will this be fixed?

I see you followed some organizations. I discovered that following organizations can prevent some activity from showing up: https://github.com/orgs/community/discussions/78549. When I un-followed all organizations I saw more activity in my feed.
I opened a ticket with GitHub Support, too, and they confirmed the issue.

Yeah and now the opposite from @siosio34 is happening for me and i am getting SPAMMED with notifications for users which I dont follow, which are starring random repos..

and Notifications for PRs of projects which I DONT have notifications enabled on.
