After looking into this topic more deeply, I am not confident of validating that change without further discussion.

Indeed, the race and ethnic group concepts are connected but separate in anthropology. Under French law, “alleged race” and “ethnicity” are two separate criteria qualifying discrimination.

I feel that more research is needed into how widely understood is the distinction between the two concepts before we can remove it from the template.
