I haven't read or tried this book. And I don't feel like I would be doing my due diligence by approving this PR. Has anyone else read the book? Would you recommend it? |
I haven't read the book either although I've just skimmed the Kindle sample. The examples are in GitHub

It's definitely in the test automation camp and seems to equate BDD to "writing tests in business language".
At >500 pages I'm not going to read it, even if I did want to spend money buying it. There are currently no reviews on Amazon, so no clues there.
I've no objections adding it to the page, but if we do I suggest annotating the entry with the disclaimers that:
• Its content is not endorsed by the Cucumber community
• It appears to focus on using Cucumber for test automation rather than as a tool to support BDD

@mpkorstanje I am happy to provide copies to anyone who needs to review. @sebrose I recently published the book so there aren't any reviews yet; I confess that I'm more of a developer than a marketer. You are correct that the book is less about the theory of BDD since I felt that The Cucumber Book and BDD in Action covered those concepts well. Instead I wanted to create a reference guide that contains practical examples using Cucumber in Java, JavaScript, and Ruby so that they could speed up their adoption of the tool. A lot of companies do use Cucumber as just test automation but I know it can be a lot more than that. I wonder if it would make more sense to have a different category for this and other books that focus more on implementation. It's also ok if linking this on the website somewhere doesn't make sense at this time. |
@sebrose @mpkorstanje @mattwynne following up on this from the meeting last week: is there a proposed wording or separating the page into sections as we discussed? I'm happy to implement the requirements but I will defer to the core team for those decisions. |
