This restores master to not being about the "idiomatic" or ACLI development at all.

It effectively reverts master to commit 038c7bc except the test suite is refactored a little:

conftest.py made hierarchical to better accommodate "idiomatic" testing (eventually to come from a branch)
small improvements to the typing of the credentials dict in the fixture usage.
