As of deegree 3.4.4 the log4j configuration is broken. The deegree artifact contains a log4j2.xml configuration file where still log4j (1.2.17) is in use. The log4j.properties file is missing.
This regression was introduced with upgrading the deegree-maven-plugin to version 2.x with PR #914, see commit deegree/deegree-maven-plugin@cfd52ba#diff-f7c44f24254a41e487c851890a32c410
