failing to get messages #1767

  • Operating System Android 8 Samsung oem s7 edge
  • Delta Chat Version: 1.145 Google play
  • Expected behavior: always check mail
  • Actual behavior: stops checking mail

I have both the Google play version installed and the fdroid version

The Google play version (apk downloaded from your website) seems to fall asleep and stops checking mail until i force close it and start it again.
It has happened numerous times.

I think it has happened once with the fdroid version

If you can give more information I would be grateful.
What operating system do you use, what version of Delta Chat.
What kind of messages are you not receiving.
For now, messages from mailing lists are not shown, you know?
With the next version (hopefully) there will be support for mailing list.

I had put all that info in, don't know what happened.
Android 8 Samsung s7e oem
Delta chat 1.145 Google play apk downloaded from your website (i also have the fdroid version running on the same phone and it seems
fine)
I can't find reason or any idea when it stops it's pretty random.
(As i said i also have the fdroid apk installed and it had not been a issue that i noticed)
All messages are not downloaded. (Delta chat is not battery optimized) when i start Delta chat it then gets the messages.

Can you please send us the logs from after this happens? Also, do you have Settings -> Notifications -> Reliable background connection enabled? What about Background notifications?

No i don't not on either

What about Background notifications?
Yes i do.
Logs will be an issue unless Delta chat keeps it own. I can go two days before checking it and i have no idea when it stops.

Yes, you can go to Advanced -> View log. But if enabling "reliable background connection" helps then you don't need to send a log.

I'll test and report back. Strange that the f fdrod install works fine without "reliable background"and the Google play apk needs it

Reporting back. Still have the issue. It Google play apk from your website just stopped in the last 36 hours twice.
The fdroid apk is working fine.

@nutpantz You could verify with a common MUA (classic mail client) if Delta Chat stopped receiving messages.

Verify in what way with another mail client? When i go to deta chat it gets messages 24hours old , or six hours old, even though I've been using the phone all day. Other mail clients, fdroid deltachat. Browseing. But the Google play Delta chat never notified me of new messages.

@nutpantz You can run Delta Chat and another mail app at the same time. When that app notifies you about incoming mail but Delta Chat does not notify you at all, it is obvious that it has stopped receiving new messages. Then, please create a log instantly, and post it here. Thanks in advance.

@nutpantz You can create a log file in Delta Chat in "Settings" -> "Advanced" -> "View log", and save it by tapping the floppy disk icon.

Signal had the same issue, also Samsung, also Android 8, but then it magically went away. On StackOverflow (also Samsung/Android 8) someone proposes to disable hardware rendering for some special devices.

closing stale issue, there are good chances, that is fixed in between. if needed, please open a new one with recent 1.26.2 and new logs.
