Any reason why e.g. defaultGetoptPrinter wasn't used?

This switch is kind of useless, though... just set any of TMPDIR/TEMP/TMP. I think it exists only because the original (Perl?) version of rdmd had it, Andrei's "new" D reimplementation originally didn't have it but it was added later because it was documented in the man page (the choice was either to do that or remove it from the man page, and this way had the slightly lower chance of breaking ancient D codebases.

The travis failure seems unrelated, how about e.g. pulling #233 or temporarily disabling Travis until sth. #233 (or similar) is pulled?

Hmm, Travis is failing because of a Digger error... only on the 32-bit configuration.
