Once the decisions around what type of feedback is valuable and who that feedback should be from have been made, we will need to determine how to collect that feedback.

There are a few feedback tools on the market, does anyone know of any good ones? Could you tell us specifically what is good about them?

We could whip one up ourselves pretty quickly but it would be advantageous to know what has worked well for people in the past or what they have seen that is appealing.

The application should:

  • allow the creation of questions to receive feedback on
  • allow completely anonymous feedback to be given by anyone (with the question url)
  • allow the person who asked the question to respond to the feedback (privately or publicly)
  • provide privacy for users that register with the application

@iteles I have an idea for this ... and it's one companies/organisations will line up around the block to pay for because it guarantees anonymity for the sender of the feedback while still allowing a response mechanism i.e. we can reply to anonymous feedback and the person who posted the original comment will receive the reply! 😮
So it's not just a ranting/venting app like "Secret" https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secret_(app)
it's one where people can get a solution to their issue!

@nelsonic Do you want to augment the top comment here with your idea, or the points that we want to ask @jackcarlisle to take into account when researching?

I can do a first pass this afternoon for you to edit too 👍

Found an article on anonymous feedback and some of the shortcomings of previous applications https://www.officevibe.com/blog/anonymous-employee-feedback

TL;DR:
It's all about the follow-up after the feedback has been submitted which is what @nelsonic mentioned in his above comment. There are two main parts to the follow-up, it needs to be:

  • genuine and specific - so that the feedback has been felt to be heard
  • prompt - so that action can be taken regarding the issue as quickly and effectively as possible
