Source jars for the embedded bundles are missing in the Eclipse Committers distribution

Hi team,

I'm using Eclipse Committers distribution to develop Eclipse plugins

And I found that since some certain version, the Eclipse Committers distribution does not contain the sources jars for those bundles anymore.

Why the sources are removed? And how can I install all the source jars for those embedded bundles in Eclipse?

This is a recurring theme:

It's very easy to follow these steps and then all source of all bundles will be installed:

Do you mean the steps are not working or the Committers package is not properly built?

It appears that none of the packages that I expect to contain source actually contain source. And I think when the installer creates the installation it doesn't know whether any specific package should contain source or not because there is nothing in the p2 metadata to indicate that one way or the other (unlike when source features were specifically mention as dependency prior to their removal).

FYI, I've been working with @laeubi to understand what's going on in the EPP build and I think we have arrived at a solution. I just have to ensure the solution isn't so good that all products end up installing sources. 😕

EPPs are produced by https://github.com/eclipse-packaging/packages project. What Eclipse platform produces is https://download.eclipse.org/eclipse/downloads/drops4/R-4.38-202512010920/#EclipseSDK and it contains sources. You will have to create new issue there for the project to handle it (Github doesn't allow moving issues between projects) and close this one.

P.S. It's unclear whether you miss all source bundles or some of them.
