Bug Description:

Original #7936

The preferences-widget state is not preserved when switching editors.
When switching editors, the preferences-widget is reset (back to the top of the tree) which reduces it's usability.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. open the preferences-widget and scroll down the tree (not at the top)
  2. open a new editor or switch to an open editor
  3. switch back to the preferences-widget
  4. notice how the tree is reset (back to the top)
