Background

Feedback provided by the system is often key to giving users insight into what is happening, helping them bridge the gulf of evaluation. It can increase users' success by guiding them toward optimal scenarios.

However, feedback in the wrong form can become an annoyance or even an obstacle. Too much feedback can lead users to start to tune it out.

System feedback is also a design arena. Well-designed feedback is empowering and delightful, and makes the product look slick and modern. Poorly designed feedback can do the opposite.
