We should allow the users to pick the level of data fidelity they want when they set up a new config.
There are multiple ways to go about it and this is an issue to discuss how we can do it.
This effort relates to Integrations in that integration packages should be able to define their data fidelity tiers. We need to make sure the definition of the tiers will help make it easy for users to pick a tier.
Maybe we need three tiers: low, medium and high, where medium will have all metrics/logs, but be conservative in what is indexed. Or maybe we start with just a "default" and "extended" to make it simple for users to decide.
As a conversation starter, here's a mockup of what it could look like in Ingest Manager:
We'll need to work with the integrations team to come up with a reasonable way forward.
