Increase the likelihood users drop to preview in Lens initial state #76021

@AlonaNadler I've discussed this with other designers and gotten feedback on the design I sent you in Slack. The resounding feedback was that the new graphic did more to indicate the drag and drop ability then our current graphic does (unfortunately). So I propose that we just switch out that the old illustration, as beautiful as it is, for something more targeted to the drag and drop functionality specifically. Here's a quick gif of the change and the prototype Another question I'll pose here is if the information provided below the graphic is helpful anymore. I'd say we should make it more descriptive as to what Lens will do when they drop a field there. |
thanks caroline that sounds good, lets change to the new illustration
Why unfortunately? |
Because the old graphic is nice! We'll just have to find another place for it 😄 |
In lens users can drag and drop fields to the preview or directly to the configurations.

When users drop in the middle Lens shows an immediate preview adding other fields to complete the chart.
In general, even if these fields are not exactly what users wanted its easier to change and tweak and chart from that point.
Hence we want to encourage users to drop in the preview.
@cchaos any design suggestions on how we can encourage more users to drop in the preview? especially in an empty state
