Describe the feature:
When users have one or more maps within a dashboard, it is often desired to filter the other visualizations (i.e. pie charts, histograms, etc.) based upon the current map extent.
An alternative is to use the "Draw bounds to filter data", but this requires extra steps on the users behalf. Adding an additional filter option allows the user to quickly build a filter based off the current map extent.
Ideally the users would like the extent filter to be updated whenever the map extent changes. This then begs the question of what to do when there are multiple maps. My suggestion is that when an 'extent' filter is added, it uses the
meta
to track which map it is associated with and then any changes to that maps extent would update the filter. This means it would be possible to have multiple maps each contributing their own extent filter to the filter-bar, which depending on the users interaction may be desireable.Describe a specific use case for the feature:
When users include maps on a dashboard, the intention is often to explore the geospatial data in conjunction with other visualizations. Without this feature the users have extra friction when doing discovery because they have to consistently update filters. With this feature the dashboard would automatically update when the map zooms or pans.
** Bonus **
Similar to how this feature request describes the
extent
filter updating; it would be useful if the bounds and geometry filters for a map updated the existing filter rather than adding a wholly new filter. I believe that in many cases where a bounds/geometry filter is draw the intention is to replace any previous bounds/geometry filter rather than creating a new one.The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
