Rust toolchain with Xtensa 1.59.0.0

this time built in CI using self-hosted runners
testing build in Azure using Windows 11 - Standard D4 - build time: 3h+, estimated cost 0.79 EUR; note: downlink is extremely slow, it's necessary to use Storage to transfer data faster

Windows builds:

there are several different problems with long paths on Windows - it's important to distinguish them

Our SVD generator now supports <enumeratedValues /> tags within fields
- Some registers will have these values added in the next release (they must be added manually, sadly)

esp-pacs

Published the PAC for the ESP32-S3 after updating with IO_MUX

Added the PAC for the ESP8266, archived old repository
Added most recent SVDs for each PAC, removed old patches

espflash

Fixed a bug where resizing the terminal caused the serial monitor to terminate

- RISCV startup code now in the HAL - we now depend on the published riscv-rt crate
  - Question: Now that asm! and global_asm! is stable: should we move the RISCV assembly code in HAL to Rust?
- refactor linker scripts to make it easier to use the HAL
- RISCV atomic emulation is available for ESP32C3
I2C implementation
- originally started by a community member who is now a bit short of time
- finalized it for all supported chips
- PR for esp-pacs is merged
- Draft PR for esp-hal created

added some examples for things like GPIO, UART, I2C, SPI

Rust Board

The boards are almost done (90%). Still missing some parts.
Plan A: Wait for the parts. No estimated date yet.
Plan B: I'll finish the boards in my lab since I have the missing parts.

Next Steps

Boards will be shipped to me (If plan B).
Finish the soldering (If plan B).
Test the boards.

- I have a PoC using esp-rainmaker as an external component but need help fleshing out how to turn this into a feature of esp-idf-sys
I'm starting to look into the fs issues we've seen reported, however debugging the interaction between idf and Rust is quite difficult as embuild overwrites changes made to the downloaded source.
- I think pio & espidf - option to re-use a user-activated environment embuild#29 would help greatly here, whats the status?

Overall health of esp-idf-* crates

Everything builds again with Rust nightly, after a sequence of regressions in Rust nightly
New releases: esp-idf-svc 0.37.x and embedded-hal 0.17.x:
- Further stabilization of the ESP Event Loop wrappers, ESP Timer Service wrappers and MQTT
- Async interfaces of the above ^^^ released under the experimental flag

RUWM

Purpose:
- A "real" embedded project with Rust on the ESP-IDF
- Should demonstrate how to write non-trivial Rust apps
- Should demonstrate concepts, i.e.
  - How to code against traits (embeded-hal and embedded-svc) in a portable way
  - How to split code into platform-independent parts and platform-dependent parts
  - How to organize it so that bits and pieces can be tested on the host
  - How to use async as a way to reduce number of threads (and thus avoid stack sizing issues and excessive stack memory consumption) as well as improve readability and code decoupling
Work in progress
What works:
- mqtt, valve, battery status, led screen and other services communicating asynchronously on a broadcast channel (using smol as the executor, but async-ified ESP IDF event loop, timers etc.)
- ~ 14 services dispatched from a single thread
Pending:
- CI
- Web UI (and HTTP server; possibly via a web socket)
- Updates service
- Deep sleep and recovery from deep sleep
- Most important: user guide explaining the concepts
