Several packages in CentOS 7 no longer meet the minimal version requirements for ESPResSo. Several ESPResSo dependencies are not yet available in CentOS 8 due to packaging issues. CentOS is mostly relevant for computer clusters, where it is common practice to load custom/newer compilers and libraries via modules.
