[Feb/March] Issue / Bug Reduction Drive

We are planning to focus on issue and bug reduction during February ( after the merge of myst-parser and myst-nb updates), along with some review of developer documentation etc. This issue is a place for priority triage that we can all edit and comment on. It would be great if this top level comment cell remains the list of issues for focus on.

A high priority enhancement request

• mathjax loading on per page basis causes issue for nodes containing math in reference only sphinx-exercise#40
• Update documentation for working with :ref: and :numref: via resolving pending_xref etc.

Hey all - I wanted to note a bunch of other bugs that we've closed in the book theme and in Jupyter Book this month - a lot of that was knocked out by the recent theme refactor:
