What is the public portal?

The public portal is the public-facing website for the Field Museum digital asset management system (DAMS). As of Fall 2024, it is publicly accessible at https://dams.fieldmuseum.tech/portals/museum-media

What's in the public portal?

The public portal includes media assets from across the Field Museum, including Collections (Anthropology, Botany, Geology, Zoology, Photo Archives), Action, Research, Exhibitions, IA, Learning, Marketing, and Technology.

Who manages the media assets?

  • Designated users (generally an EMu power-user or contact) from each museum area manage these NetX assets via EMu.

  • Applicable media and data standards are listed here.

Who manages the public portal?

With input from the FMNH DAMS user group, the FM Technology Department maintains the public portal front-end and coordinates with NetX when additional functionality is needed. For more information about its setup and launch during 2024, see the project timeline here.

Who can access the public portal?

The public portal can be accessed by anyone online -- no login is required. Note: If you have a Field Museum NetX login and are logged in when visiting the portal, your NetX user-group view will apply in the portal. (Log out of NetX and/or use a private-browser window to see the public view of the portal.)

How can I get to the public portal from fieldmuseum.org?

If you recommend adding a link to the portal from a page on fieldmuseum.org, please let us know which page/s would help by creating an issue and adding the portal label to it.

How do I request an addition to the Featured Media page?

  1. Coordinate with your area's power user to setup one of the following:

  2. Contact Helpdesk and share these three pieces of info:

    • URL for the collection or link
    • Short title text for the collection or link
    • GUID for thumbnail image

Where can I submit public portal suggestions / questions / problems?
