TOL has to be right clicked > "Run as administrator" so you can store settings for good. Some settings, such as resolution and full screen cannot be changed at all if the game is not run as admin, even while the game is live. It is worth noting that the game uses the settings you saved as admin even if you don't run as admin the next time.
There shouldn't be a need to do this. I notice a fair few older games explicitly ask for admin permissions or realistically need them so settings can be changed. but most modern games don't require this. I imagine few people will be able to figure it out, even with prior experience of the problem. It would be awesome if TOL could join their ranks.
Tested on Windows 8 (other version reports are welcome).
