OBD connection
AndrOBD supports OBD connection via following ELM327 compatible adapter types
- Bluetooth
- WIFI / Network
- USB
Please note that in order to connect to the vehicle, the corresponding OBD adapter has to be plugged in, and the vehicle ignition has to be turned on.
In order to connect to a ELM bluetooth adapter you have to ensure following AndrOBD settings to be matching your adapter:
- Settings -> OBD settings -> Adapter type -> BLUETOOTH
(This is the default setting after a new installation of AndrOBD)
Right after starting the app you will be asked to allow bluetooth connection.
After confirming these access rights you will be prompted to select your paired bluetooth OBD adapter.
In order to connect to a ELM network adapter you have to ensure following AndrOBD settings to be matching your adapter:
- Settings -> OBD settings -> Adapter type -> NETWORK
- Settings -> OBD settings -> ELM IP Address
- Settings -> OBD settings -> ELM IP port
AndrOBD will start connection on any start of the app, or on manual connection button.
In order to connect to a ELM USB adapter you have to ensure following AndrOBD settings to be matching your adapter:
- Settings -> OBD settings -> Adapter type -> USB
When connecting the USB adaptor your system will prompt you to start it with AndrOBD app!
In order to allow demonstrations and app feature testing without the availability of any OBD adapter and/or vehicle connection, AndrOBD supports a DEMO mode. In this mode AndrOBD simulates some basic vehicle Features.
- Turn OFF Android Bluetooth connections
- Ensure in AndrOBD settings: OBD Settings -> Adapter type is set to Bluetooth
- (Re-)Start AndrOBD
- Answer to reject bluetooth access
Now AndrOBD indicates- and runs in DEMO mode!
