3.x backport of #49328.
Same implementation as in 2D.

Using this option makes my character controller behave strange (moved using MoveAndSlideWithSnap) and the applied values of the animationplayer seemingly skip position updates. Does it have other requirements that need to be met first? It doesn't seem to matter if i set the process mode of the animation player to physics or idle atleast. And the physics mode sounds redundant; what is the difference between the two settings (physics update mode and sync to physics)?
