Now that we've got some interest from companies to be patrons (thanks @heroku for starting the craze and everyone for getting involved!), we should write up a doc on this to point people to.

What

Invest money in open source software development via Gittip.

Why

1. Marketing, if you sell to devs.
2. Recruiting.
3. Keep FOSS vibrant and independent.

How

1. Register with Gittip using the company Twitter account.
2. Fill out a profile.
   1. Statement is optional, though you probably want to select "We are" under Statement > Edit.
   2. You probably also want to select "We're here as a patron, and politely decline to receive gifts."
3. Add a company credit card.
4. Set up tips!

Limitations

1. "I am ..." instead of "We are ..." allow "We are" in addition to "I am" #502
2. Patrons can still receive money company patrons shouldn't receive tips #893
3. Can't connect GitHub org account, only a Twitter account (answer: a) considering it Support GitHub organization account #871, b) start a dedicated Twitter account for your engineering team).
4. Twitter accounts have poor avatars (answer: Gravatar, connect a gravatar account #648).
5. Can only give in $24 increments, mostly to individuals (answer: funds). add $100 as a tip option #1041
6. Can only give weekly recurring (answer: manual lump sums).

Okay, backing down on the PDF. Feedback I'm getting is that a PDF isn't more helpful than a webpage, and we're fitting this ticket into a bigger initiative to align our efforts around /for/ pages (#949 (comment)).

@bmann is pulling together a marketing team, and this is one of the action items he identified (in Slack, no linkable logs :-( ).
