Going through the student installation yesterday it seemed fairly repetitive. I would propose changing it from installing every tool which is in the AMI section anyway to different methods of installation.
I'm starting to edit the Installation page, and agree with Zach's comment. I was thinking of referencing the full install on the AWS AMI setup page, and using a few specific example to highlight install tools and principles (dependencies, package managers, chmod, configure-make-install, unzip commands, etc.). Much of this is already in the descriptions on the Installation page.

install samtools binary
install samtools from source
install java tool (picard)
maybe a few other things
