Mustmatch - jQuery Inline Assertions

Your jQuery code isn't working how you expected:

$('.something').css('color', 'blue');

It could be that selectors aren't matching what you expect. It would be nice to eliminate that as a source of the problem right away....

Change the above code to validate that it matched:

$('.something').mustmatch().css('color', 'blue');

And if a match is not found, mustmatch will log a warning to your console.

Matching at Least One DOM Node

Add a .mustmatch() to your selector to validate at least one matching DOM node was found

$(".someclass").mustmatch();

or more briefly:

$(".someclass").mm();

If the .someclass returns no elements, a warning is logged by default:

Add a .mustidentify() to your selector to validate exactly one matching DOM node was found

$(".someparentclass .someclass").musidentify();

or more briefly:

$(".someparentclass .someclass").mi();

Handling Matching Failure

The .mm() and .mi() methods accept a callback to handle failure:

$("#user-name").mi(function() {
  alert("User name not found");
});

This can be passed in with each mustmatch and mustidentify call. A callback accepts two parameters, the jQuery object, and the label of the failure (mustmatch or mustidentify).

If no callback is specified, the default callback, $.fn.mustmatch.defaults.callback() is invoked. This default handler logs a warning to the console. Set the variable $.fn.mustmatch.defaults.callback to modify the default behavior:

$.fn.mustmatch.defaults.callback = function(jq, label) {
  alert(label + " failure searching for " + jq.selector);
};

Chaining Methods

Since mm() and mi() return the jQuery object, they can be insterted into method chains:

$(".someclass").mm().attr("focus", "true");
