Need OpenWayback logo #100
Comments
As expressed in the meeting May 23 in Paris, the BA is happy to make an OpenWayback logo. I will coordinate with our graphics designers. |
Sorry for the delay. The Graphics people had a couple of things at hand, but I will hopefully post some logo samples early next week. |
Sorry yet again for the prolonged delay. I was having a little bit of difficulty getting Graphics at the BA to make the time for working on the logo. I look forward to have samples early next week. |
@kris-sigur: Using IIPC colors was actually something I mentioned to my colleague in Graphics. |
I also like the arrow/clock motif in IIPC colors. Does IIPC have a designated typeface that might be used? |
One more thought, if it has been decided that OpenWayback should not have a space when written, does it confuse the issue to have the logo split the line on "Open" and "Wayback"? |
@lauren-unt Those are good points. |
@lauren-unt I see your point about the split of "Open" and "Wayback." Will see what alternative we can come up with. |
I like the arrow-backwards-around-the-clock idea. I would suggest not using text or individual letters at all as it very rapidly gets inelligible at icon size, as well as the clock hands. Also be careful about color - will it be recognizable in black and white? |
@ravn Arrow-backwards-around-the-clock such as in the first jpg, second row, middle one? Anyone has any other preferences at this point? |
Nitpicky, but wouldn't the top hand on the clock be about half way between two ticks were the bottom hand in its displayed orientation? |
@kris-sigur - I like this newer typeface better. @machawk1 - Yeah, technically the clock is currently not depicting the time accurately. |
I was thinking more in the lines of https://cloud.githubusercontent.com/assets/2357193/3669557/e9ce00be-1236-11e4-92ef-87b02f24a0d7.jpg, which to me looks like a 3d-version of the Apple TimeMachine icon where the arrow suggest the opposite direction of time. Regarding the current discussion I would suggest concentrating on the actual logo (the letters will most likely not go into e.g. an icon). I think the arrow is very dominant - it is hard to see the clock. Also the clock hands may need to be more rectangular to be legible at small sizes and larger relative to the arrow. I think the "arrow goes against time" is easier to see in the circular than the straight arrow. |
I like the last suggestion from @kris-sigur. The clean typeface is ... well, just cleaner. But I would prefer to make the text a little smaller, like the suggestion with the other typeface. I think this one works well in small sizes and b/w. Without the text it should work well as an icon. I'm not so fond of the 3d-versions because I don't think they work that good in b/w. |
Unfortunately, the typeface in the last suggestion is Consolas which is subject to copyright for uses like a logo. I've found this alternative: It is similar to Consolas, but open source! Its called Gudea. I should add, that going with the above was approved in yesterdays dev meeting. |
Added a place for logos on site, includes the EPS files Use logo in webapp. Changed color of main search bar to match the logo. More changes are likely needed to have it fit with the colors of the logo.
I've added the new logo in a branch: https://github.com/kris-sigur/openwayback/tree/Issue-100 |
In order to replace the logos in https://github.com/iipc/openwayback/tree/master/wayback-webapp/src/main/webapp/images we will need some sort of OpenWayback logo. I am happy to generate something, but I thought I should try to gather feedback.
