My earlier BPMN modeling of distributed cognitive systems in healthcare was
in Visio, which did not save to .XML.
Our team is developing automatic translation from xml BPMN to Promela for
model-checking healthcare workflows with SPIN.

a BPMN File is always XML. So no export is needed. You can open the file
with any XML Editor or parse it with any XML Parser.
