This commit cleans up how mounting was being done. It now successfully signals when it is properly mounted and listen to close signals correctly.

This PR fixes the mounting, unmounting, and exit logic. This makes it work well on osx again! (yay). And ctrl+c on a mounted daemon works correctly now. Still need to fix the known breakages (from sharness tests), but getting there.
Note: it's branched from
relay(#478) -- so rebase on master once that merges. This is really only 30b9eef...896ec7b
