The gif in the README.md is from when I very first got the proof of concept working in the RFC. It's very basic. I think a better gif could both help explain how to use this and demonstrate what's possible. Some ideas.

  • Show the whole process (including showing the test card and then starting the virtual camera)
  • Make a cooler demo (what is the neatest use case for this plugin we can think of)
  • (Maybe) show the virtual camera running in several apps

We want to keep the gif a reasonable size so we probably want to keep it to 10s.

Probably a common usecase is a chroma key green screen?

Also sharing your screen

Good idea 👍

Both great ideas! Maybe a screenshare where you are chroma keyed in the bottom corner (like Twitch streamers usually do)?

I dont know if we can demonstrate this with a gif because of lower framerates, but one of the big benefits of this (and one of the reasons I originally made it) is it allows you to stream full-framerate video into video conferences. In my experience screen sharing directly from VC software has a terrible <=1 fps streaming experience.

A 15fps gif would be smooth enough especially since most VC applications will cap the frame rate to save bandwidth (Jitsi for example usually won't go above 15fps camera video)

So true 😄
