Wilkommen! πŸ‘‹

I am a software engineer and computer scientist with expertise engineering Big Data systems to support Earth system science. Over the past decade I have worked within the NOAA scientific community developing software solutions to bridge the gap between scientific modeling and analysis into understandable, actionable information used daily by local decision makers. This includes data processing pipelines and software applications for:

  • πŸŒŠβ›ˆ Ocean and weather forecast models
  • πŸ›³βœˆ Maritime and aviation decision making
  • πŸ—ΊπŸ” Earth science
  • πŸ›°πŸ’§ Satellite and buoy observations

I am currently advising the NOAA Integrated Ocean Observing System on their long-term systems architecture through the Reaching for the Clouds / Cloud-Optimized Data Management and Cyberinfrastructure project.

How It Started

I started to learn programming in C++ around 1996 so that I could make video games. I was known for making small games using DirectX at Hayfield Secondary School in Alexandria, VA. I competed in high school science fairs, taking projects exploring AI (heuristics) to the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair in 1999, 2000, and 2001. πŸ€“πŸ€©
