I'd still rather we not participate in Twitter/X. Is this a requirement?

From what I can tell, it is not a requirement, and CNCF projects are free to choose to post/not post on any given social network. I personally don't believe Twitter matches the values of this project/team, and would rather not support it.

If we need another social presence besides mastodon, maybe bluesky?

This isn't about anyone's personal beliefs. We are not asking any one to personally join X (Twitter). We are asking to have a X (Twitter) handle to promote to people who use twitter on the work we are doing with the project. The CNCF and all projects are politically neutral, meaning we do not take a side. The request is to build community where they are at, we would be remissed if we didn't try to connect with people on such a popular platform.

Other CNCF projects use X (Twitter), such as Kubewarden, and event K0s, so does the CNCF and Linux Foundation.

I do not believe that X can currently be legitimately considered a politically neutral social media platform.

I have a question but first I want to share my context, to make sure we are on the same page.

Context

The goal of using social media is for "push" messages to A) do awareness marketing and B) provide communications out to users of k3s. A NON-GOAL is for interactive messaging by engaging or discussing topics with people.

X, Bluesky, Mastadon, and LinkedIn are all places where people get messages this way and there are technical people in the Kubernetes space. X and LinkedIn have groups dedicated to Kubernetes.

None of these social media places are politically neutral. X, Bluesky, and various mastadon servers are all different. LinkedIn may be the most neutral on topics people disagree strongly on as the focus is business and professional topics over other things. But, ideological topics also shows up there.

The CNCF and the projects themselves need to be neutral. The member companies come from all over the world including places outside the "west". Contributors and users come from all continents (yes, there have been CNCF contributions from Antartica). It's entirely acceptable to have contributors from India, China, an Islamic Pakistani, a Christian from England, a democrat from Seattle, a republican from Texas, and any other variation. As long as they follow the code of conduct.

My Question

Since X is a popular platform with cloud native people on it, is there a reason to not do push messages for awareness marketing and to communicate updates?

Second question, should LinkedIn be considered, too. Kubernetes is on there to communicate out? See https://www.linkedin.com/company/kubernetes/posts/?feedView=all

@OrlinVasilev could you provide a bit more insight on projects leveraging LinkedIn as well?
