@WikiDocJames Just to let you know that, as requested, in the new v1.9.9 of the WikiMed app, I have now removed the custom override landing page. The new release is here: https://github.com/kiwix/kiwix-js-windows/releases/tag/v1.9.9-WikiMed. Full changelog is here: https://github.com/kiwix/kiwix-js-windows/blob/Kiwix-JS-WikiMed/CHANGELOG.md. I have a question about release dates. I have a question about release dates. Until last month, a new MDwiki
custom app ZIM would appear from around 22nd of the month (I use
mdwiki_en_all-app_maxi_2022-05.zim). However, the May version appeared a
lot earlier, on 5th May, not long after release of the April ZIM. Is it
intentional or accidental to shift to a release date early in the month?
I'm wondering whether I need to shift the release cycle, as I prefer to
release the app close to the release of the ZIM, to give the app version
more longevity.

Kiwix schedules the zim run. It used to occur in the first week of the
month, but after the problems we had transitioning to the new zim it got
pushed out later and later. I would guess that they have moved it back to
the original time. I have no way to tell when it will run in a given month.
I try to refresh the cache periodically to be ready when it runs.

I have added a status to the mdwiki cacher that can tell you what has
happened, but not what will happen. (It also only knows whether zim
creation on the ZimFarm succeeded, but not if the zim made it to the
download server.)

@WikiDocJames Thank you, that looks helpful! I think a release earlier in month is preferable, as it makes the app appear more "up-to-date" for longer (though of course that is just an illusion)! |
Few things to say:
|
Just to let you know, the app is now updated to v2.0.4 and has the June 2022 MDwiki ZIM. |
App now updated to v2.0.9 with July 2022 MDwiki ZIM. However, I've just noticed the Electron package is using the generic app's icons rather than the WikiMed specific one -- this will be fixed in the next release. |
@WikiDocJames, @Popolechien, @kelson42: You might be interested in the last three months' usage data of the Windows Store WikiMed app, which corresponds to the period in which the app has been using the new MDWiki ZIMs (May to July 2022). The data show highest usage in Ethiopia, followed by Ghana, Uganda, Pakistan and Nigeria. Reddit post about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Kiwix/comments/wck4ki/wikimed_windows_store_app_with_new_mdwiki_zim/ NB this is the Store app only (Windows 10 and 11), and these figures don't include usage of the Electron version (currently not tracked). |
Amazing. Great work.

New release with August MDWiki ZIM is here. |
The WikiMed app is now at version 2.0.9. This release uses the Wiki Project Med Foundation MDwiki ZIM archive for July 2022.
The UWP app is for Windows 10/11, while the Electron versions work with Windows 7/8/10/11 and Linux. The Linux packages have been tested on Ubuntu, Debian and OpenSUSE (32bit and 64bit). If you need support for Windows XP or Vista, please install the vanilla Kiwix JS Reader (which has packages for XP), and download the ZIM archive separately.
The packages contain the July 2022 WikiMed English ZIM (
mdwiki_en_all-app_maxi_2022-07
), together with the changes in the CHANGELOG. The Electron app uses Electron v18.3.2.Release: https://github.com/kiwix/kiwix-js-windows/releases/tag/v2.0.9-WikiMed
