Chaosnet was MIT's network technology, developed for the Lisp machine. Initially ITS was the file server. There's a Computer History Wiki article with some background information.
Chaosnet offers some services that can be used with PDP-10 emulators:
- Network file system between ITS computers.
- File transfer between ITS and the host.
- Network time servers.
- Remote login with SUPDUP.
- Remote tape backup with RTAPE.
There is a global hobbyist Chaos network. Host systems include ITS, Lispm, PDP-11, VAX, and TOPS-20. See http://chaosnet.net/
