Name change

There is a file browser for both Windows and Linux with the name Nemo that has been around for 5 or so years.

A new name may be in order so people don't get lost when searching the web. Not to mention the ambiguity with having more than one program that more/less does the same thing and have the same name.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This was discussed already within the team when the name was chosen. In the end the decision was taken to use the name nemo.

The nemo you linked to isn't available in Debian/Ubuntu/Mint and got its last commit in 2010 and its last code change in 2009. The assumption made was that using this name wouldn't be a problem since there were no users, or very few, of the older nemo.

Note that mdm also reused a name previously used. Again, the decision was made based on the fact that there were very few "mdm" users out there.
