Thanks for the fast response and I'm sorry for posting this follow-up here, but my reply comment wouldn't post on the makeuseof website. I was able to test the strip and the mic (both worked) and both are now working correctly once I re-uploaded your code. Now I seem to be having a problem with the remote (I bought the one that you linked to in your description), it seems to send "random" codes some of the time (verified via the serial monitor). When I was doing some testing I came across this page (https://learn.adafruit.com/using-an-infrared-library/hardware-needed) and when using the page’s Decoding IR data code the serial monitor always showed that the code from the remote was as expected and consistent. Could the issue be somewhere in the decoding? If so, do you have any ideas on a fix or a workaround or should I just live with it since eventually the correct code will be sent (at least so far this is the case)?
