no android notifications from signal contacts #540

Hi!
I don't know if this is really a bug in the bridge but I'm having this weird problem where both on Element and Element X I don't receive notifications anymore from my signal contacts. Whatsapp contacts work as before. How can this even be? I have turned all notifications on and reinstalling the app didn't help.
Could it have something to do with the fact that in an earlier version of the bridge it was possible to rename the contacts (which I did) and then this feature was taken away? Most of my contacts kept their new names but have recently reverted to their real names so maybe there was some upgrade that somehow messes with notifications on android when contacts have been previously renamed?
This is just a shot in the dark. Maybe someone has an idea how I could even begin debugging this?
