Feature request: show tabs as dashes and spaces as dots when highlighting them

Description of the problem or steps to reproduce

Here is a screenshot in Sublime Text after I pressed Ctrl + A to select everything:

As you can see, spaces are shown as dots, and tabs (line 10) as a long dash. I like this feature to quickly check where tabs lie and where spaces lie. Please enable this in micro too.

I like this feature to quickly check where tabs lie and where spaces lie.

Something similar is possible with my PR #1897 with hltaberrors option.
