how to change type of comments under a particular directory

Hi,
Most of the comments I wirte in html are templating code, not meant to be passed to the output html, even in comments.
They're different, like this {{/*``*/}}
How can I do that simply ?

You can configure the comment type by glob or filetype in your ~/.config/micro/settings.json (see help options for details).

For example, using a glob:

If you use a custom filetype/syntax for your templates you could use "ft:jinja2" instead of the glob to only enable the setting in jinja2 template files. Many of the popular templating languages already have one built-in, if yours doesn't you could use jinja2.yaml as a starting point to define one yourself. You can read more in the section on syntax files in help colors.

Ok, I will. But let's still do this here. My settings.json is

and the file I tried it on is /home/drm/NNSITE/layouts/404.html.
I still get the same old html comments. Was it wrong ?
I have other sites, the globbing I'd need is rather /layouts/.html, meaning, selecting html files at any depth below an ancestor named "layout", wherever that one is.
I tried reloading too, or quitting and coming back.

"*/layouts/*.html" should work as the glob. In older versions of micro the setting is called "commenttype" instead of "comment.type", but I'd recommend updating to nightly to get the latest bug fixes (especially #3424 is relevant).

Try it yourself. just add your snippet to settings.json, put some other specific directory and I'll be damned if it works. Or rather, I'll damn the guy who thoughts scripting languages as a configuration mechanism was a smart idea...

I think your problem may be that if you cd into the layouts directory the glob will obviously no longer match (unless you open the file as ../layouts/t.html). You may have better success with the filetype approach I suggested earlier:

The above configuration would use the layout filetype for any .html file that has:

• %LAYOUT as the first line
• or either {{ or }} somewhere in the first detectlimit lines (configurable with set detectlimit 999, default=100).

If you have control over your filenames you could consider changing the file extension from .html to .layout.html or similar to make them easier for editors to distinguish.

I left only the signature as it should be enough to identify all hugo templates.
Does not work. Changes to settings otherwise do apply. The tarball includes a complete environment to reproduce the behavior. You can cd inside and execute:

install -m 755 .local/bin/micro ../.local/bin/micro
install .config/micro/ ../.config/micro/
install NNSITE ../NNSite

The configuration directory in your archive is empty. You don't need to post the entire micro executable, just the output of micro -version is enough (and it saves us the hassle of setting up a virtual machine to run an untrusted binary).
