Issues with specific OS releases

This is mostly a place to collect information on different issues introduced with different Operating System releases.

macOS 13 Ventura (October 2022)

• macOS 13 Ventura finder drag&drop flashing fails ARMmbed/DAPLink#982
• Present from the first Ventura release
• Two different issues:
  • macOS was creating resource fork files, and trying to read them back. As DAPLink drops those files, macOS was reading back zeros and that stop the file transmission.
    • This was also an issue in other projects like UF2 bootloaders
    • This was fixed in macOS 13.1
  • For files larger than 1 MB, macOS was not sending the file blocks in order
    • This was not an issue for UF2 implementations as they can deal with blocks out of order
    • Turns out even though the Universal Hex blocks format was created, DAPLink wasn't updated to deal with file blocks arriving out-of-order
    • This was fixed in macOS 13.2
• macOS 13.2 was released January 2023

Windows 10/11 22H2 (February-March 2023)

• Flashing errors with recent Windows update ARMmbed/DAPLink#1025
• Issue was blocks sent out of order
• Fix with Windows 11 build 22621.2506, released on the 31st of October.

macOS 15 Sequoia (September 2024)

• macOS 15 Sequoia finder drag&drop flashing fails ARMmbed/DAPLink#1083
• A lot of metadata files written to the USB drive
• Two issues
  • Files are written in sequential order, but due to disk fragmentation from this metadatafiles, the blocks are not continuous
  • The MICROBIT drive shows as NO NAME
• Both fixed in macOS 15.3.1 released 10th February
  • Metadata files still created, unclear exactly how the fixed worked
