Summary of the new feature/enhancement

Just wanna ask for the option to reset the PowerToys settings. After fiddling around with them too much, one could simply want to start over with the defaults.

This has two parts:

  1. manually reset settings
  2. remove settings from the system (register and "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\PowerToys") when uninstalling (not when updating)

Maybe a pop-up window can appear, to select individual toys...

"Reset the settings for these toys:"

  • ALL (toggles the following check-boxes)
  • Fancy Zones
  • File Explorer Preview
    (...)
  • Shortcut Guide

RESET CANCEL

Even more welcome since the uninstall of Powertoys does not remove the settings from the system. Which is messy.

which doesn't it reset / remove?

@crutkas Basically, everything. For example (but not limited to) checkboxes, layout and custom colors for Fancy Zones; toggles for the File Explorer Preview; custom Image Resizer sizes; toggles for Power Rename; number of search results in Powertoys Run; press duration for Shortcut Guide...

So basically, everything.

It would be nice to have a 'Reset this module' button at the bottom of every page. Especially for FZ it would come in handy since it has quite some options.

typical response would be to just nuke the app data folder for PT :)

That's also a possibility. But, requires quite a lot of clicks if you want to reset all at once.

That is "C:\Users\[name]\AppData\Local\Microsoft\PowerToys", if I'm correct? Just removed v0.19.1 and the folder + all files are still there. 🙁

Deleting settings after uninstall I agree we should do. Reset script like this I am less inclined to agree with.

I would suggest to remove them by default but let the user choose to not remove the user settings.

We need to be able to uninstall PT first, before upgrading to a new version. The default has to be "don't remove the settings".
