ℹ Computer information

  • PowerToys version: 0.22
  • PowerToy Utility: VideoConf
  • Running PowerToys as Admin: Yes
  • Windows build number: 19041.450

📝 Provide detailed reproduction steps (if any)

  1. Enable VideoConf in PowerToys
  2. Change default camera in Power Toys Video Conf to Logitech Webcam C920
  3. Change default camera in Teams to Powertoys camera

✔️ Expected result

Expected result is for video to display during a Teams call

❌ Actual result

Video content actually looks like a strobe light rather than webcam video

Notes

I've tested this with Zoom meetings and the Video Conference feature works great in Zoom. However, in Teams it is unusable right now.

Happened to have a call with Goto Meeting and it said that it couldn't recognize the camera. So to summarize:
Teams - Flashing strobe light
Zoom - Works perfectly
Goto Meeting - Camera not recognized

Does the issue still there in the latest VCM version?

the VCM starting from 0.36.0 doesn't support anymore the camera app, just video conference apps.

is this an issue with the inconsistent behaviour/support for 50hz/60hz (aka Powerline) support/settings in Windows - even for some apps/drivers that have support for it, it's not always handled well.
Skype and Zoom have explicit settings and seem to handle it well, Teams has no setting (and seems to ignore a RegEdit hack to fix)
Would be a great feature if the Powertoy could 'fix' the poor behaviour across the board for us on non-US power ;)

Thanks for the feedback but VCM is moving to maintenance only in the 0.67 timeframe. Our team will only directly address critical bugs, security and accessibility issues.

We'll accept community PRs for enhancements.
