Does this significantly increase the output binary size? |

Does appear to go from 1.6MB -> 2.0MB for 3.9 manylinux build... Edit: After v2.7.0 which drops the numpy dep, it appears to lose approx the same amount in binary size as this PR would add. |

Started work on this over Easter, and hardly had time to work more on it.
Will leave it here until interest and time from myself (or others) occurs.
Replaces benchmark data and docs as well which needs commits separated.
