Support for Mysql2 protocol

Is there is a chance we can support MySQL 2 package to be able to connect to mysql 8 new authentication methods?

Using mysql as indicated got the following error:

ER_NOT_SUPPORTED_AUTH_MODE: Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client
