PMCs on PowerPC increases towards 0x80000000 and triggers an overflow interrupt when the msb is set to collect a sample. Therefore, to setup for the next sample collection, pmu_start should set the pmc value to 0x80000000 - left instead of left which incorrectly delays the next overflow interrupt. Same as commit 9a45a94 ("powerpc/perf: power_pmu_start restores incorrect values, breaking frequency events") for book3s. Some powerpc like the 8xx don't have a RW bit in PTE bits but a RO (Read Only) bit. For nohash powerpc, when we run out of contexts, contexts are freed by stealing used contexts in-turn. When a victim has been selected, the associated TLB entries are freed using _tlbil_pid(). Unfortunatly, on the PPC 8xx, _tlbil_pid() does a tlbia, hence flushes ALL TLB entries and not only the one linked to the stolen context. Therefore, as implented today, at each task switch requiring a new context, all entries are flushed. This patch modifies the implementation so that when running out of contexts, all contexts get freed at once, hence dividing the number of calls to tlbia by 16. Kernel MMU handling code handles validity of entries via _PMD_PRESENT which corresponds to V bit in MD_TWC and MI_TWC. When the V bit is not set, MPC8xx triggers TLBError exception. So we don't have to check that and branch ourself to TLBError. We can set TLB entries with non present entries, remove all those tests and let the 8xx handle it. This reduce the number of cycle when the entries are valid which is the case most of the time, and doesn't significantly increase the time for handling invalid entries. When pages are not 4K, PGDIR table is allocated with kmalloc(). In order to optimise TLB handlers, aligned memory is needed. kmalloc() doesn't provide aligned memory blocks, so lets use a kmem_cache pool instead. Commit 746c9e9 "of/base: Fix PowerPC address parsing hack" limited the applicability of the workaround whereby a missing ranges is treated as an empty ranges. This workaround was hiding a bug in the etsec2 device tree nodes, which have children with reg, but did not have ranges. T1040 has a different version of corenet-cf, despite being incorrectly labelled with a fsl,corenet2-cf compatible. The t1040 version of corenet-cf has a version register that can be read to distinguish. The t4240/b4860 version officially does not, but testing shows that it does and has a different value, so use that. If somehow this ends up not being reliable and we treat a t4240/b4860 as a t1040 (the reverse should not happen, as t1040's version register is official), currently the worst that should happen is writing to reserved bits to enable events that don't exist. The changes to the t1040 version of corenet-cf that this driver cares about are the addition of two new error events. When adding an event to the PMU with PERF_EF_START the STOPPED and UPTODATE flags need to be cleared in the hw.event status variable because they are preventing the update of the event count on overflow interrupt. These defconfigs contain the CONFIG_M25P80 symbol, which is now dependent on the MTD_SPI_NOR symbol. Add CONFIG_MTD_SPI_NOR to satisfy the new dependency. At the same time, drop the now-nonexistent CONFIG_MTD_CHAR symbol. MMU_NO_CONTEXT is conditionally defined as 0 or (unsigned int)-1. However, in __flush_tlb_page() a corresponding variable is only tested for open coded 0, which can cause NULL pointer dereference if `mm' argument was legitimately passed as such. Bail out early in case the first argument is NULL, thus eliminate confusion between different values of MMU_NO_CONTEXT and avoid disabling and then re-enabling preemption unnecessarily. And after truncate_error_page clear the mapping of this page. end_page_writeback won't call sb_clear_inode_writeback to clear inode->i_wb_list. That will trigger BUG_ON in clear_inode! The device can be requested to be attached despite being not probed. But kernel is mapped in PMD SIZE, when bpf_jit_binary_lock_ro() is called to make the first bpf jit prog ROX, we will make part of kernel .data section RO too, so when we write to, for example memset the .data section, MMU will trigger a store page fault. To fix the issue, we need to ensure the BPF JIT region is PMD size aligned. This patch acchieve this goal by restoring the BPF JIT region to original position, I.E the 128MB before kernel .text section. The modification to kasan_init.c is inspired by Alexandre. ASan reported a memory leak of BPF-related ksymbols map and dso. The leak is caused by refount never reaching 0, due to missing __put calls in the function machine__process_ksymbol_register. Once the dso is inserted in the map, dso__put() should be called (map__new2() increases the refcount to 2). The failover txq is inited as 16 queues. when a packet is transmitted from the failover device firstly, the failover device will select the queue which is returned from the primary device if the primary device is UP and running. The global rwsem dmar_global_lock was introduced by commit 3a5670e ("iommu/vt-d: Introduce a rwsem to protect global data structures"). It is used to protect DMAR related global data from DMAR hotplug operations. Using dmar_global_lock in intel_irq_remapping_alloc() is unnecessary as the DMAR global data structures are not touched there. This crash is because a NULL pointer is passed to page_address() in the sk_msg_recvmsg(). Due to the different implementations depending on the architecture, page_address(NULL) will trigger a panic on Loongarch platform but not on x86 platform. So this bug was hidden on x86 platform for a while, but now it is exposed on Loongarch platform. The root cause is that a zero length skb (skb->len == 0) was put on the queue. This zero length skb is a TCP FIN packet, which was sent by shutdown(), invoked in test_sockmap_skb_verdict_shutdown(): shutdown(p1, SHUT_WR); In this case, in sk_psock_skb_ingress_enqueue(), num_sge is zero, and no page is put to this sge (see sg_set_page in sg_set_page), but this empty sge is queued into ingress_msg list. And in sk_msg_recvmsg(), this empty sge is used, and a NULL page is got by sg_page(sge). Pass this NULL page to copy_page_to_iter(), which passes it to kmap_local_page() and to page_address(), then kernel panics. To solve this, we should skip this zero length skb. So in sk_msg_recvmsg(), if copy is zero, that means it's a zero length skb, skip invoking copy_page_to_iter(). We are using the EFAULT return triggered by copy_page_to_iter to check for is_fin in tcp_bpf.c. nft_chain_validate already performs loop detection because a cycle will result in a call stack overflow (ctx->level >= NFT_JUMP_STACK_SIZE). It also follows maps via ->validate callback in nft_lookup, so there appears no reason to iterate the maps again. nf_tables_check_loops() and all its helper functions can be removed. This improves ruleset load time significantly, from 23s down to 12s. This also fixes a crash bug. Old loop detection code can result in unbounded recursion: BUG: TASK stack guard page was hit at .... For nf-next it might make sense to either remove it or make this depend on table->validate_state in case we could catch an error earlier (for improved error reporting to userspace). When putting an inode during extent map shrinking we're doing a standard iput() but that may take a long time in case the inode is dirty and we are doing the final iput that triggers eviction - the VFS will have to wait for writeback before calling the btrfs evict callback (see fs/inode.c:evict()). This slows down the task running the shrinker which may have been triggered while updating some tree for example, meaning locks are held as well as an open transaction handle. Also if the iput() ends up triggering eviction and the inode has no links anymore, then we trigger item truncation which requires flushing delayed items, space reservation to start a transaction and that may trigger the space reclaim task and wait for it, resulting in deadlocks in case the reclaim task needs for example to commit a transaction and the shrinker is being triggered from a path holding a transaction handle. kthread. Recently, we got a customer report that CIFS triggers oops while reconnecting to a server. [0] The workload runs on Kubernetes, and some pods mount CIFS servers in non-root network namespaces. The problem rarely happened, but it was always while the pod was dying. The root cause is wrong reference counting for network namespace. CIFS uses kernel sockets, which do not hold refcnt of the netns that the socket belongs to. That means CIFS must ensure the socket is always freed before its netns; otherwise, use-after-free happens. The repro steps are roughly: 1. mount CIFS in a non-root netns 2. drop packets from the netns 3. destroy the netns 4. unmount CIFS We can reproduce the issue quickly with the script [1] below and see the splat [2] if CONFIG_NET_NS_REFCNT_TRACKER is enabled. When the socket is TCP, it is hard to guarantee the netns lifetime without holding refcnt due to async timers. Let's hold netns refcnt for each socket as done for SMC in commit 9744d2b ("smc: Fix use-after-free in tcp_write_timer_handler()."). Note that we need to move put_net() from cifs_put_tcp_session() to clean_demultiplex_info(); otherwise, __sock_create() still could touch a freed netns while cifsd tries to reconnect from cifs_demultiplex_thread(). Also, maybe_get_net() cannot be put just before __sock_create() because the code is not under RCU and there is a small chance that the same address happened to be reallocated to another netns. Unloading the ice driver while switchdev port representors are added to a bridge can lead to kernel panic. First, it removes a port representor from xarray, then unregister_netdev() is called (via repr->ops.rem()), finally representor is deallocated. The problem comes from the bridge doing its own deinit at the same time. unregister_netdev() triggers a notifier chain, resulting in ice_eswitch_br_port_deinit() being called. It should set repr->br_port = NULL, but this does not happen since repr has already been removed from xarray and is not found. Regardless, it finishes up deallocating br_port. At this point, repr is still not freed and an fdb event can happen, in which ice_eswitch_br_fdb_event_work() takes repr->br_port and tries to use it, which causes a panic (use after free). Note that this only happens with 2 or more port representors added to the bridge, since with only one representor port, the bridge deinit is slightly different (ice_eswitch_br_port_deinit() is called via ice_eswitch_br_ports_flush(), not ice_eswitch_br_port_unlink()). vp_modern_avq_cleanup() and vp_del_vqs() clean up admin vq resources by virtio_pci_vq_info pointer. The info pointer of admin vq is stored in vp_dev->admin_vq.info instead of vp_dev->vqs[]. Using the info pointer from vp_dev->vqs[] for admin vq causes a kernel NULL pointer dereference bug. In vp_modern_avq_cleanup() and vp_del_vqs(), get the info pointer from vp_dev->admin_vq.info for admin vq to clean up the resources. In the error recovery path of mlx5_vdpa_dev_add(), the cleanup is executed and at the end put_device() is called which ends up calling mlx5_vdpa_free(). This function will execute the same cleanup all over again. Most resources support being cleaned up twice, but the recent mlx5_vdpa_destroy_mr_resources() doesn't. This change drops the explicit cleanup from within the mlx5_vdpa_dev_add() and lets mlx5_vdpa_free() do its work. Accessing `mr_table->mfc_cache_list` is protected by an RCU lock. In the following code flow, the RCU read lock is not held, causing the following error when `RCU_PROVE` is not held.
