This used to work for me, but I find that it doesn't work anymore. media keys are enabled all the time, after I run either fntoggle on and fntoggle off. I'm curious if it's only me?

Running fntoggle on or fntoggle off won't change the GUI's representation of the underlying flag while it is running. What macOS version are you running? Also, are you using Karabiner like the user in #4 ?

@nelsonjchen I was talking about functionality, not GUI appearance. Yeah I was using karabiner elements, uninstalled it and now fntoggle seems to be working fine. Thanks!

Is there any chance that it will work together with karabiner?

If the Karabiner Elements also ignores that checkbox, I'm not sure what I can do. I'll have to see. At the very least, maybe I should make this tool warn if Karabiner Elements is used and have a flag to turn off that detection.

I'm not using KE at this time (though I do at times), and I still can't get this to work on High Sierra. Installed at both usr/local/bin and usr/local/sbin, made sure to chmod +x
… and did an implicit on/off command first; now with just toggle, I get res: -1 when trying to toggle OFF or ON. If I use only explicit commands, the state is left unchanged, as reported by defaults read "Apple Global Domain" "com.apple.keyboard.fnState"

@KingTbird Hmm I don't have a good idea why that's happening. Unfortunately that's beyond what I know.
