I have the following issues with outline:

a) With many sections and a long outline, the outline is cut at the end of the screen and there is no way to scroll the outline in order to see the remaining part.

b) If the browser window is a bit smaller in width, the outline overlaps the document text, even though at the right side of the document is a large white space. Instead the white space should be reduced to have sufficient space for the outline and document text.

c) If "show outline" is enabled and I switch to a different document, the setting still remains "show outline" (which is good) but the outline is not shown. In order to show it I have to disable and re-enable the outline.

Dear @jans23, thanks for your report.

a) The missing scroll container is a known issue that is tracked upstream in nextcloud/text#3585 and being worked on in nextcloud/text#3999.
b) Unfortunately it's not an option to move the main page content container to the right dynamically as this would mean a lot of visual disturbance. There's issue #242 to discuss possible solutions to how we could use the whitespace on white screens.
c) We considered making the outline setting consistent per user and collective, but that turned out to be more complicated than expected. E.g. you don't want the outline container if there's no headings in the page. And depending on your screen size, you don't want a persistent outline either if it overlaps the page content. Having a "semi-persistent" outline on the other hand would mean a poor and non-consistent user experience. That's why we decided against it for now. There's also nextcloud/text#3586 about persistent outline.

What you described in c that the setting doesn't reset to "show outline" but stays "hide outline" after opening another page clearly is a bug. Let's track this particular bug here 😊
