  • If a user WANTS to overwrite settings, should we allow manual config editing?
  • Allow overwrite but show a „reset to default“ in the UI if value is different of the default?

I was thinking that we could offer restoring detauls of all settings:

I think we need to show the user first, that he is on a not-default value.
we should show the information in general like "You are using the beta/stable/enterprise update channel"

and if its not default, only then show the button "Reset to stable" or so.
I do not know how much effort this case-control actually is
