Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.
A clear and concise description of what the problem is. Ex. I'm always frustrated when [...]

If I would like to sell your education version for my university I think I would be told that it lacks bibliography tools and PDF editing and database management software. (Underlining, marks, and metadata management as quotes memos etc.)

Describe the solution you'd like
A clear and concise description of what you want to happen.

I think that using other FOSS as RQDA http://rqda.r-forge.r-project.org/ adding a special interface for treating bibliography as Atlas,ti (proprietary QDA software) does and or Twiki (FOSS) modules https://twiki.org/cgi-bin/view/Plugins/BibliographyPlugin adding collaborative tools - as many PhD students work cross continents - would increase a lot the value of your education offer to your actual customers and many to come.

Describe alternatives you've considered
A clear and concise description of any alternative solutions or features you've considered.

Zotero (FOSS) integration with a special Zotero folder to make it the Zotero main or in sync backup, what is very easy to implement.

And if you add to it - with time - some functions such as, share form there articles with PhD students or between researchers, or adding some QDA tools to organize them importing the sqllite from Zotero would also be a better offer than what you actually have for bibliography and perhaps easier to implement in the short term.

Additional context
Add any other context or screenshots about the feature request here.

My university uv.es s teaching proprietary software as Mendeley and Atlas,ti to manage bibliography, when there are FOSS tools as good or better as Zotero, RQDA, or twiki, as I have just read about your very improved last version, that I will install on my next server (already in my RPI your old one) and read about the education one, I do not think it is still a "I want to have it now" offer, at least for the needs of my university, and I would like to, and I think you are close.

Please work this suggestion a bit with your actual university customers, and I think you will add a great value and probably more customers for your education product.

I do agree that bibliography management would open an interesting market for Nextcloud.

Yet there are several tools for this already.

I think that there are three possibilities:

  • enhance the ability of the server of dealing with different metadata formats (including the bibliographic ones...)
  • (help to) create a connection between Nextcloud and one or more already existing tools
  • (help to) create an app that manages bibliographic metadata

@mitcoes take into account that I am NOT related to Nextcloud GmbH and not even an independent developer. I am just a user trying to provide his contribution...

Concerning the integration with an R package: I'd be really happy but I think it would be a really long path....
