web-infra access to search console

there seems to currently be an issue on Google where indexing of older posts has been bugged out and indexed titles are not reflecting meta tags. There was some discussion I started in slack, and it resurfaced when an additional page was found recently.

@MattIPv4 suggested that @nodejs/web-infra getting access to the Search Console could help figure this out, and suggested that someone create an issue for this. Would that be on the table?

I don't know who has access to the search console (I don't) and I can't find documentation about it. There are no Google credentials in the infra secrets.

I wonder if someone within OpenJSF has an account that owns the domain in search console? If not, do we want them to, or do we want a dedicated account to own it, or someone from build/web-infra?

I'll take a look on our end to see if there is anything already set up.

I added myself to the account (it required dns verification to prove you own the domain) and it had never been set up before, so we'll have to wait a bit for it to backfill with data.

The permissions/access to it is very primitive. Its google account based, and we can have multiple owners.

I'll leave it up to the @nodejs/tsc to decide who should be able to access this.

👀 I think it would still be beneficial for @nodejs/web-infra to have access, probably at the Full level, but as noted before, that's probably a @nodejs/tsc decision?
